In the coming weeks several CLP locations will welcome interns from the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work.
The Social Work in Libraries Program is a multi-directional partnership between ACLA, the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work, and the library. This fellowship matches BSW and MSW students with ACLA libraries to assist with community social service needs.
Social Work Fellowship activities in neighborhood locations include but are not limited to: community outreach and assessment; information and referrals to human service resources; support and assistance for individual patrons and library staff; and program development/implementation.
Introducing CLP-Hill District’s 2023-2024 Social Work Intern!
Hello! My name is Katherine MacDonald, I am the new Social Work Intern at CLP – Hill District. I am pursuing my B.A. in Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh and am in my final year of the program. As a part of my field education, I am interning at the library, where I serve as a liaison between patrons and social services/issues, as well as providing information and referrals. Some of the things I have been able to help patrons with so far include applying for home repair loan programs, searching for legal services, and navigating housing options and applications.
I am not originally from Pittsburgh but have spent my years in college living here, specifically in the Hill District. This is why I am so excited to be working at this branch, as it gives me the opportunity to learn more about and to serve my community. I look forward to meeting more of you and helping in any way I can!
