Bridges

Bridges can be high or low, long or short, straight or curvy. Some are designed to blend in, while others stand out. But each one tells a story: a reminder of our history, a testament to ingenuity and engineering, an invitation to imagine the possibilities of the future. Literally and symbolically, bridges connect us-to new places, new cultures, and new people. With poetic text and sweeping illustrations, Marc Majewski delivers a unique, accessible look at bridges from all around the world: from the incredible structures that connect San Francisco’s Golden Gate and Zambia’s Victoria Falls, to England’s Tower Bridge and Japan’s Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge, and many in between. Both informational and thought-provoking, Bridges shows how these awe-inspiring structures unite the manmade and natural worlds, and how they bring humanity together.

Bridges: Engineering Masterpieces

Join a group of guides traveling the world (and through time) to use every type of bridge–beam, arch, truss, and suspension–and learn about the oldest, longest, tallest, and weirdest superstructures still standing. Presented in comic book format.

Brooklyn Bridge

The story is rooted in the Jewish immigrant experience in early-twentieth-century New York City. It is about American-born Joe’s immediate personal narrative as the first natural-born American in his family of Russian immigrants. The story also focuses on a community of vagrant kids.

Enchanted Air

Memoir in verse that touches on cultural identity. She is bicultural, with an identity (Cuban) that is being torn apart by politics.

Not the Girls You're Looking For

Safi’s debut novel features realistically messy friendships, strength, and vulnerability in a story about, above all, finding oneself and one’s true community. High-school student Lulu Saad navigates a world of culture clash and racism in this coming-of-age story.

Open Mic: Riffs on Life Between Cultures in Ten Voices

Anthology of 10 stories about growing up in diverse homes or communities, from an Asian youth who gains temporary popularity by making up a false background, to a biracial girl whose father clears subway seats by calmly sitting between two prejudiced women.

The Power of Style

This book teaches about different cultures through the way in which the culture expresses itself in its fashion. It also is about style’s effect on cultures and the way people express themselves in the world. It discusses fashion statements happening in the world and the importance of clothes. Many cultures want to continue their traditional clothing style to feel empowered by culture. It shows how we can find our true selves and our identities through clothing.
