What I love about magazines is how I can easily see a variety of ideas and stories in one place. It is so satisfying to gain so much insight so quickly!
As a slow reader, this is an important accomplishment for me. The same is true of sitting with a newspaper. Recently, I learned about a special lizard, international current events and a British sculptor in 20 minutes, through picking and choosing articles from the daily New York Times.
In a world ruled by headline skimming and hashtags, I challenge you to read a few paragraphs in and see what happens. You may feel your world expand beyond the buzzwords of today or enjoy a needed break.
As the Library considers materials and safety, physical magazines may be unavailable for the foreseeable future. I hope there comes a day where staff and customers are once again skulking around the Library, trying to find out who has the Sports section. In the meantime, there are plenty of digital periodical offerings to either tide you over or get you hooked for good.
