Statistical Abstract of the United States

This resource is only available from inside a Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh location.

The Statistical Abstract of the United States is an annual one-volume, comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic state of the United States. Use the Abstract as a convenient volume for statistical reference, and as a guide to sources of more information both in print and on the Web. This database replaces the print edition of the Statistical Abstract which is no longer published as a government document.

Teenie Harris Archive

For more than four decades, Charles “Teenie” Harris photographed Pittsburgh’s African American community for the Pittsburgh Courier, one of the nation’s most influential black newspapers. His archive of nearly 80,000 images is one of the most detailed and intimate records of the black urban experience known today. Established at Carnegie Museum of Art in 2001, the archive serves as a steward for the community to discover and engage with its own rich history.

Western Pennsylvania Regional Data Center

The Western Pennsylvania Regional Data Center houses datasets from civic organizations throughout Allegheny County and Western Pennsylvania. The datasets provide machine- and human-readable information about key statistics and measures collected by the City of Pittsburgh, the Allegheny County government, Port Authority of Allegheny County, and a variety of others.

Datasets are available under open licenses in a variety of formats, including CSV/Excel, HTML, ZIP. Many datasets are compatible with GIS software or accessible via API.



World Newsreels Online, 1929-1966

This resources is available to CLP cardholders only.

Streaming video of more than 8,000 newsreels produced in the middle of the twentieth century. These films, produced from 1929 through the 1960s, provide a unique resource highlighting how we learned about and lived through the events that occurred during some of the most significant years of the 20th Century. The content is drawn from the US, France, Holland and Japan, providing an unusual opportunity to see the news of the day from a perspective that isn’t always American.
