Summer Reading 2021 kicks off on Sunday, June 13. We are challenging everybody to read five books this summer and support the young folks in our lives to read five books to combat summer learning loss and all the challenges of the past school year. Interested in getting started? Sign-up by visiting Beanstack or visit your closest CLP location.
If you’re not venturing out into the world yet, the Library provides plenty of ways to browse our extensive collection of eResources to get started on your Summer Reading goal. And when we say read five books, that’s a choose-your-own-adventure style mission! Do audio books count — absolutely! eBooks? Of course! All forms of reading are welcome and encouraged. One of the ways to get started on Summer Reading after signing-up in Beanstack is perusing the collection in Hoopla. This is a fun activity to do together with young readers as they have the opportunity to browse titles in various formats, while choosing the titles that interest them most. They can try new genres and return easily via your device to get another title as soon as they finish! Hoopla has an extensive collection of videos, graphic novels, picture books and more for kiddos. You can learn how to use Hoopla and how to get the service on your device here.
The best part about Hoopla is that there are no holds and no waits. Every title is always available and accessible immediately. That means if you’re browsing with your child there will be no let down with selecting a book that’s checked out. Hoopla also features a “Kids” browsing mode accessible on the web version of Hoopla by clicking “Kids On” in the upper right-hand corner. Have a reluctant reader? Try the wide assortment of books-on-video including Pigeon titles by Mo Willems that will have you cracking up together.
Ready to find your next read to share alongside a young person to support their Summer Reading goal? Try the “Browse” feature in the top left corner and select the format you want to explore.
