Contest Information
Are you someone who loves to create?
Allegheny County teens in grades 6-12 are invited to enter original creations and works of art in the annual Teen Media Awards (formerly Labsy Awards).
Teens may submit up to two entries.
Submissions open March 11th. All entries must be submitted by 9:00 am on June 24th.
Prizes will be awarded in each category.
- 1st Prize: $250
- 2nd Prize: $100

- 2D Art & Design (paintings, drawings, prints, etc.)
*Submissions from this category may also be chosen as cover art for the 2024 Ralph Munn Creative Writing Anthology, an annual publication of entries from the Ralph Munn Creative Writing Contest - 3D Art & Design (clay, 3D prints, models, etc.)
- Short Film (an original short film no more than 10 minutes in length)
- Fashion (hand-made, modified, or up-cycled apparel and accessories)
- Music (original composition)
- Photography (original photo)
- 2D Art & Design (paintings, drawings, prints, etc.)
Contest Rules
- Contest is open to all Middle and High School students (grades 6 – 12) in Allegheny County
- No more than two (2) entries per individual will be accepted. These two (2) submissions can be in any combination of categories
- All submissions must be original work
- Your submission must conform to the contest descriptions to be considered
- Submissions must not be generated by artificial intelligence (AI)
- All entries must be submitted by 9:00 AM on June 24, 2024.
What Judges will be looking for:
- Creativity and originality: We want to see your own unique vision and style.
- Resourcefulness: Expensive or high-tech equipment doesn’t matter! We’re interested in your resourcefulness instead. How did you use materials found around your home or library to create your submissions?

Need supplies or tech to bring your ideas to life? Visit a Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Teenspace. They have DSLR cameras, Apple Pencils, Stop Motion Animation supplies, and other art supplies!
Category Descriptions
2D Art & Design
Submit photographs, scans, or image files of your 2D original artwork created digitally or using studio art materials such as paint, charcoal, or ink.
3D Art & Design
Submit photographs of your 3D original artwork created digitally, like a 3D printed object, or using studio art materials such as clay or papier mâché.
Short Film
Submit an original film that’s no more than 10 minutes long. Film can be in any genre (scripted, documentary, music, video, etc.).
Fashion
Submit photos or patterns for handmade, craftily modified, or up-cycled apparel and accessories.
Music
Submit an original song. Composition can be in any genre.
Photography
Submit an original photograph. Photos can be of any subject, in any style, taken with any type of camera.
