This Sunday is the official start of summer for us at the Library. We’ll be celebrating with the 17th Annual Summer Reading Extravaganza! Today, I’m here to arm you with all of the info you’ll need to reach your Summer Reading goals.
About Summer Reading
First and foremost, Summer Reading is for all ages! From our very youngest readers to our super seniors, we hope to foster a love of reading across the whole city. We are one of the most literate cities in the country, after all. And since we crushed our city-wide reading goal of 90,000 books last year, we’re going BIG with 180,000 this summer.
You can sign up now on our website or by visiting your favorite Library location. Everyone who signs up will receive a tote bag for carrying all of your books around town. After you log two books (and again after five books), you’ll get the opportunity to select a title to keep. Plus, each location will be offering plenty of raffle prizes and fun programs to help keep you motivated all summer long.
Share what you’re reading and get recommendations on Twitter or Instagram with #PGHREADS! Not sure what to read? When you sign up, you’ll receive a book list of great titles to check out – we’re featuring Pittsburgh authors for our adult readers this year — and you’ll have the opportunity to sign up to receive emails from a staff member with suggestions tailored to your interests!
