Already binged every television show? Kids all caught up on Dork Diaries and Diary of a Wimpy Kid? Are you on the hold list for the next book in your preferred series? Hoopla can keep you entertained and introduce you to new always available titles to find your next favorite for children, teens and adults. This summer we are challenging all Pittsburghers to read five books as part of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Summer Reading program.
Using Hoopla is a great way to avoid the wait and make new reading discoveries. Hoopla is an eResource accessible with your CLP library card that gives you access to eBooks, video, music and more on your device. There’s no wait list for any content on their site which means when your kiddo wraps up that last Wimpy Kid or has read every Dog Man and Big Nate comic in existence your next read is a tap away.
One of the great features of Hoopla is the ability to turn “Kids Mode” on or off. So if you’re preparing for a long road trip you might want to explore together and load up in hopes of keeping everybody entertained. Have a hard to please tween into super cute creatures and adventure? Try The Tea Dragon Society! Looking for something to prepare for the upcoming school year? Try the Newbery Medal winner New Kid by Jerry Craft. And of course, by searching Hoopla in “Kids Mode” you have access to all sorts of favorites like Big Nate, Minecraft, Lumberjanes and Adventure Time. If you think comics are just superheroes and jokes, you can get an introduction to the rich variety of comics and graphic novels for everybody in the family.
One of the highlights of Hoopla is the comic and graphic novel collection. You might find yourself binging a set of comic volumes and crushing your Summer Reading challenge with months to go! For adults you can search Hoopla’s hull of comics and even filter by publisher which is perfect for those devoted to Marvel or DC or more into indie books from Silver Sprocket. By turning off “Kids Mode” in the top right-hand corner you can access titles more suited to your reading style. Much like the variety available to kids and teens there is a diversity of styles and genres to explore. Hoopla easily lets you explore and discover your next favorite.
Don’t forget to sign-up for Summer Reading this year…and yes comics totally count towards reading five!
