At Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh we celebrate literacy and learning in everything we do. We provide opportunities to create or collaborate as a community daily, but every year we get the opportunity to showcase our work during Remake Learning Days. Remake Learning Days 2018 takes place May 17th – 25th. During this time children and adults can, “Come to Remake Learning Days 2018 to experience hands-on, technology-infused, engaging and relevant learning experiences in neighborhoods across southwest Pennsylvania and West Virginia.” At CLP we are offering programs with an engaging STEAM activity happening throughout the week at at least one of our locations every day.
This year we will continue showcasing interactive technology with hands-on activities for learners of all ages to explore with our knowledgeable staff. Preschool age children can attend our Little Learners: Coding Concepts program. In this program we share early math and thinking skills that support little learners to become the next makers, tinkerers and innovators. Alongside their caregivers, preschool age children can participate in stories, hands-on activities like sorting and pattern making, along with the chance to explore new developmentally appropriate technology like Cubetto robots. We even created a booklist for families to introduce STEM concepts to preschoolers.
Children of all ages will get the opportunity to explore creating art through coding with our Sphero SPRK robots and Osmo. We are also ready to geek out as a community with our Instrument Playgrounds. Music engages all ages! Come create some new tunes with a robot that can play the xylophone, touch sensitive MIDI blocks and lots of other accessible and innovative instruments. We will even be showing kids how to create a keyboard using the conductivity of graphite in pencils.
Remake Learning Days is a time for collaboration and exploration, and we hope to see you at any of our events including Codefest Jr. happening at CLP – East Liberty on May 19th from 2-4pm. Activities for all ages will be provided by the Library and some of our amazing partners like Assemble; Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers; Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh; Sparkbox; Alice and Girls of Steel. Come explore the fun and creativity of coding and robotics with us! Can’t make it to one of these programs? No worries! Innovative learning with our community is what we do. The Library supports literacy and learning year-round, and there is always STEAM programming at a location near you. We also support youth with educational, developmentally appropriate toys and technology in our spaces along with our expert staff trained to assist you and your family in the selection of apps, tech and books!
