As May approaches, the librarians at Main-Children’s are busy preparing for the Annual Spring Puppet Show.  Each year we choose an engaging story that provides entertainment for children of all ages, but will be best suited for toddlers through kindergartners.  In the past few years we have presented “Peter and the Enormous Turnip”, “Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock”, “The Three Billy Goats Gruff” and last year’s smash hit, “The Three Little Pigs”.

This year we present a story based on the African folktale, “The Magic Tree” – a story set on the plains of Africa, where the rains have not come, the watering hole has dried up and the animals are very, very hungry.  A magic tree can feed them all, but only if someone says the name of the tree.  The problem is that no one knows it!  Tortoise remembers there is a Wise Librarian living on top of the mountain who knows many things and will certainly know the name of the tree.  So one by one Lion, Zebra and Tortoise set off on the long journey in search of the Wise Librarian.

Will they find her?  Will she know the name of the magic tree?  Will any of the animals remember the name by the time they get home?!  Find out at performances scheduled on Tuesdays at 10:15 am and Fridays at 10:15 or 11:00 am during the month of May, or at one of the five (!) performances during our Summer Reading Extravaganza on June 11th.
