Fred Rogers said, “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” For parents and caregivers, this is a great reminder of the value to children of time spent playing games, enjoying movement, and exercising their imaginations.
But play is also just plain fun as the books below show. Whether exploring games that span the globe, jumping, running and wiggling, or using a cardboard box as a rocket ship, the characters in these stories offer plenty of ways to entertain yourself and others.
So don’t just leave the “work” to your little ones—get out there and play with them and have some fun too.
