Nothing beats the excitement of an author coming to visit. Book displays are prepared while visual displays are set-up with perfection. Everyone waits for that special day. At the moment, we’re waiting for Kwame Alexander’s visit on Sunday, October 16th. From 2:30-3:30 pm, Alexander will give a presentation in the Carnegie Lecture Hall. Afterwards, there will be a book signing in the children’s department of the Main library. Author of The Crossover, Booked, Surf’s Up, He Said She Said, Acoustic Rooster and His Barnyard Band, amongst others, October 16th is sure to be a hit!
In The Crossover, 12-year-old Josh Bell and his twin brother are a hit on the court. But Josh has more than basketball in his blood. Josh and his brother must come to terms with growing up on and off the court. Sometimes breaking the rules comes at a terrible price.
In Booked, soccer takes center stage with 12-year-old Nick, as he learns the power of words. He also wrestles with problems at home. Told in verse, this novel captures the ups, downs and jam packed action of a World Cup match.
In Acoustic Rooster and His Barnyard Band, a rooster sets his sights on a talent show, until he realizes that he can’t do it alone. Together, he and his friends (Duck Ellington, Bee Holiday and percussionist piggy Pepe Ernesto Cruz) make beautiful music as they rock the show.
Check out these books and more by Kwame Alexander, and be sure to join us on October 16th in the Carnegie Lecture Hall!
