Love Your Library This Month

Love Your Library

Why do you love your library? It is a question sure to have responses that are as unique and varied as, say, the number of books in a library’s collection. It could be the class you took that finally taught you how to knit. Maybe it’s the access to books you otherwise wouldn’t be able to read. Or possibly, it’s the feeling of a place where you belong.

For me, the Library is a place to connect with my son. As a working mom to a 16-month old whirlwind of a toddler, stealing a few moments to read with my child or to attend a story time is precious. I love the gift of togetherness the Library gives our family.

My family and I are not alone in our appreciation for the Library. Here is what a few patrons had to say about Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, and why it is so special to them:

“Libraries are important centers in a community. Not only do they promote free and equal access to information, but they also give people a public place to meet and interact on an intellectual level.”

“I have been going to the Library since I was 3 years old. I am now 60.”

“We love coming here (CLP – Squirrel Hill) for Baby & Me. This is my third baby that I have brought to story time. We’ve moved, but we still drive 30 minutes to get here.”

“My husband is blind. The audio books supplied by the Library (CLP – LBPH) are life lines as well as a source of information and pleasure.”

“I love connecting with my grandsons through picture books from the Library.”

“Genealogical research. I love the Library!”

“Libraries are important centers in a community. Not only do they promote free and equal access to information, but they also give people a public place to meet and interact on an intellectual level.”

There are so many ways to show someone that you love them. A hug, a kiss, or even a special present. This month, we ask you to consider showing your love for the Library through a donation.

September is officially Love Your Library Month in Allegheny County. Donations given during this month will be eligible for a match from the Jack Buncher Foundation. The generous match of $125,000 will be split amongst all libraries that are part of the Allegheny County Library Association.

Because of our appreciation of the Library, my family and I will make a donation this month. I encourage you to consider why you love the Library, and what it means in your life. You can show your love and increase your impact by donating to Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
