Local and Sustainable Food
The premise of the local food (locavore) movement is that eating supermarket food that is shipped in from 3,000 miles away is wasting energy resources, bankrupting local farmers, enriching large corporations and resulting in food where flavor is being replaced by chemicals and hormones.

Water Quality and Conservation
In Pittsburgh we generally don't worry about running out of water but we do have a problem with water quality due to sewage overflow and industrial pollution. And as we exploit the Marcellus Shale beneath us for gas, there is a fear that our rivers will become even more polluted.
