Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh to Unveil Exclusive, Limited-Edition Pittsburgh Penguins Library Card
WHAT: Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (CLP) will debut a new, limited-edition library card in partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation. The unveiling will take place at CLP’s free family-friendly Summer Reading Extravaganza signature event.
WHO: Alongside Andrew CARDnegie and Iceburgh, the respective mascots of CLP and the Pittsburgh Penguins, remarks will be given by:
- Andrew Medlar, President and Director, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh
- Sara Innamorato, Allegheny County Executive
- Dusty Elias Kirk, Board Chair, Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD)
- Brent Semachko, Director of Corporate Responsibility, First National Bank
- Yvonne Maher, Executive Director, Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation
WHEN: Sunday, August 11 – Remarks at 2:15 p.m. on the Main Stage; Extravaganza will be held noon – 5 p.m.
WHERE: CLP-Main (Oakland): 4400 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh 15213
WHY: For only the second time in the Library’s history, patrons can pick up their very own limited-edition library card, which will be available immediately after the card design unveiling at all CLP locations while supplies last. The debut of the new card will happen amid the festivities of Extravaganza, the Library’s signature family-friendly event to celebrate its Summer Reading Program.
In addition to introducing the new library card, Extravaganza will feature live performances, food trucks and sports-centric activities – from bocce to fast pitch – for guests of all ages. Patrons can take home their own creations, including flip books, air plant terrariums, and clay pots; explore music at an instrument petting zoo; and discover a new favorite book. Extravaganza will be filled with sounds, entertainment and fun from:
- Music from the Taylor Allderdice Marching Band
- Breakdancing performances from Level Up Studios
- Skating with Steel City Roller Derby
- Circus Performer O’Ryan the O’Mazing
- Special appearance by Don Tate, author and illustrator of Poet: The Remarkable Story of George Moses Hortonand Jerry Changed the Game: How Engineer Jerry Lawson Revolutionized Video Games Forever, who will present Two Hats: the differences and similarities of creating as both an author and an illustrator
- And so much more!
