Amish and Mennonite Country

Pittsburgh Region

• Lawrence County: New Wilmington and Volant
  Located one hour north of Pittsburgh, the Old Order Amish community of approximately 1,500 people lives in farms that surround the quaint villages of New Wilmington and Volant in the northern section of the county.
• Smicksburg and Dayton
  These two communities in nearby Indiana County (northeast of Pittsburgh) are home to 289 Old Order Amish families. As you drive through the area, you will see some small Amish-owned shops that offer things such as shoe repair, bulk foods, home-baked goods, wood crafts, etc. Remember that they are not open on Sundays.

Pennsylvania

• Pennsylvania Dutch Country
  Loads of information about visiting Lancaster County from the Pennsylvania Dutch Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Ohio

The Ohio Amish area west of New Philadelphia can be explored in a long day trip or more leisurely over a weekend. Very good for cheese and bulk food stores. Also for bricks.

• Amish Heartland
  West of New Philadelphia in the counties of Ashland, Holmes, Medina, Stark, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties.
• Holmes County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau
  Includes a section on "visiting our county" with an "Official Visitors Guide to the Center of Ohio's Amish Country". Includes a list of cheese manufacturers and furniture makers.
• Lehman's Hardware and Appliance Store
  Offering a "non-electric" catalog of appliances for the Amish, Lehman's has a retail store in Kidron, Ohio, north of Sugarcreek and south of Akron.

Indiana

• Amish Country - Northern Indiana

• Yoder Department Store
  Offers fabric, shoes, hats, clothing, home and gardening goods in Shipshewana, Indiana.
