Activities:
Art/Creative
Cut out the form of Peter (from The Snowy Day) and a sled from red construction paper. Glue it to a sheet of dark blue construction paper, then draw a line from Peter to the sled with a black crayon. Then use a sponge to dip into white tempera paint and swirl on the blue paint. It looks like a snow storm!!!
Sand/Water Table
Fill the table with crushed ice, white confetti, or mounds of shaving cream. Let the students explore using shovels and buckets.
Gross Motor Skills/Social Skills
Give each child 2 sheets of wax paper. Show the students, by placing the wax paper under their shoes, how they can "glide" on the carpet of the room. (Be sure to try it yourself! Tons of fun!) Play music as they skate and allow them to choose new skaters when the music stops.
Cognitive Skills
Teachers cut out the snowmen and scarves then place a different colored scarf on each snowman . Use the colors: red, orange, green, yellow, blue, violet, pink, brown, black, and white. Now, laminate the file folder. Next, take the other snowmen and scarves and laminate them separately. Cut them out and place them in an envelope on the back of the file folder for a matching game.
