PITTSBURGH MUSIC - ARCHIVAL MATERIAL

This group of finding lists provides access to uncataloged archival materials that help to illuminate the musical life of Pittsburgh in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Primary sources such as letters, scrapbooks, music programs, music manuscripts, and more, provide evidence that musical activity in the city was always vibrant at the professional, educational, and amateur levels.

These materials are housed in The William R. Oliver Special Collections Room which is open Monday - Friday 10am - 5pm. Appointments are recommended. Call 412-622-1932 or e-mail oliver@carnegielibrary.org.

For a list of Pittsburgh Concert Programs, Scrapbooks, and Manuscripts that do not have finding lists yet, please see this table: Pittsburgh Music Scrapbooks.

External Link: The Center for American Music at the University of Pittsburgh is a library and archive of material relating to American music in the period between 1840 and 1940. It contains an extensive archive of Stephen Foster and other Pittsburgh composers like Ethelbert Nevin and Adolph M. Foerster.
