Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Knoxville is approximately 1.8 miles south of Downtown Pittsburgh. The library is located at the corner of Brownsville Road and Mathews Ave. The main thoroughfare, Brownsville Road, is also accessible from Churchview Ave., Beck's Run Road, Willock Road, Baptist Road or Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Blvd).

By Public Transit

Schedules, fares and routes for public transit are available from Port Authority of Allegheny County.

From Downtown:

  1. Board a 51C or 46K (except on Saturdays) bus on Wood Street
  2. Leave the 51C bus between Bausman St. and Marland St. on Brownsville Road.
  3. The library is one block after Bausman St. and 1/2 block before Marland St.
OR
  1. Board a 51C or 46K (except on Saturdays) bus on Wood Street
  2. Leave the 46K bus at the intersection of Brownsville Road. and Bausman St.
  3. The library is one block after Bausman St. and 1/2 block before Marland St.

From Oakland:

  1. Board a 54C bus on Forbes Ave. at South Dithridge St.
  2. Leave the bus between Bausman St. and Marland St. on Brownsville Road.
  3. The library is one block after Bausman St. and 1/2 block before Marland St.

By Automobile

NOTE: Metered parking is available.

From Downtown:

  1. Cross the Liberty Bridge and enter the Liberty Tunnel in the right lane.
  2. Go straight through the first traffic light on the south side of the tunnels.
  3. Make the first right turn after the light following the signs for South Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Blvd.).
  4. Proceed on Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Blvd.) and at the first traffic light, turn left onto Bausman St.
  5. Proceed on Bausman St. and at stop sign turn right.
  6. Proceed straight to Brownsville Road.
  7. Stop at traffic light and turn right onto Brownsville Road.
  8. Follow Brownsville Road to Mathews Ave.

From Oakland:

  1. Drive toward Downtown Pittsburgh on Fifth Ave.
  2. Turn left onto the Birmingham Bridge (formerly Brady St. Bridge).
  3. At the end of the bridge, turn right onto East Carson St., and proceed to South 18th St.
  4. Turn left at South 18th St. and follow South 18th St. uphill. (South 18th St. changes to Brownsville Road at the top of the hill at Arlington Ave.)
  5. Proceed on Brownsville Road to Mathews Ave.

From the South

  1. Take Route 19 north to Route 51 South (Saw Mill Run Blvd.).
  2. Proceed on Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Blvd.) and at the first traffic light, turn left onto Bausman St.
  3. Proceed on Bausman St. and at stop sign turn right.
  4. Proceed straight to Brownsville Road.
  5. Stop at traffic light and turn right onto Brownsville Road.
  6. Follow Brownsville Road to Mathews Ave.
