Sustaining Our Future: Community Chats

In 2010, twelve Community Workshops were held throughout the City of Pittsburgh to explore strategies to ensure the long-term financial and operational health of the Library. More than 1,400 people shared their thoughts and provided feedback.

An independent Public/Private Task Force on Sustainable Funding has addressed this community feedback through a multi-pronged approach recommended to the Library's Board of Trustees. Together, these recommendations have the potential to provide the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh with an additional $5 to $7 million dollars annually.

Our next step was to return to the community to share information on our funding status and discuss, how together, we can sustain and grow our Library. Members of the Library's Board and Administrative staff joined community members in neighborhood chat sessions at several different library locations across the city. Meetings took place throughout March and April of 2011. A summary of these chats can be viewed here:
