Join CCAC's Jeanne Bergad to discuss Water For Elephants, by Sara Gruen. This novel, set in depression-era America, tells the story of Jacob Jankowski, who drops out of veterinary school when his parents are killed in a car crash. He ends up in the Benzini Brothers circus, parlaying his veterinary skills into a job caring for various exotic animals, including Rosie the elephant. He also falls in love with equestrian performer Marlene, who just happens to be the wife of the volatile animal trainer. The 2011 film adaptation was directed by Francis Lawrence and starred Robert Pattinson as Jacob and Reese Witherspoon as Marlene.
