Winning the Hearts & Minds of Donors and Funders

Tuesday, December 18, 2012
9:30 AM - 12:00 PM

How can you really get into the hearts and heads of donors and foundation staff? How can you build lasting relationships that lead to lasting generosity? At this session, you’ll learn fundraising and donor retention strategies from the insider’s perspective of a foundation executive and experienced fundraiser.

This program is appropriate for board and staff members who are relatively new to their charge as organizational fundraisers, and for veteran staff who want to refresh their skills. The session is based on direct experience with a wide variety of donors and funders and on national research into the psychology of giving and donor relations. It includes hands-on exercises and take-home resources.

Attendees are highly encouraged to bring examples of their fundraising letters, brochures, and fundraising pages of their websites.

The speaker is Tony Macklin, Executive Director of the Roy A. Hunt Foundation. Tony serves as: a trustee of Awesome Pittsburgh; board member of the Union Project and Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania; advisory board member for the Allegheny Regional Asset District; and speaker and facilitator at conferences, university classes and community planning meetings. He has served as a volunteer proposal reviewer for United Ways, arts commissions and education networks in Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Pittsburgh Planned Giving Council. You can follow his observations on philanthropy at and @tonymacklin1 on Twitter.

This program is free, however, registration is required by calling the Foundation Center at (412) 622-6277.
