Join CCAC's Jeanne Bergad to discuss The Merchant of Venice, by William Shakespeare. Believed to have been written between 1596 and 1598, The Merchant of Venice tells the tale of the title character, Antonio, a Venetian merchant who makes a fateful contract with the moneylender Shylock. Antonio signs on a loan for his friend Bassiano, who needs the money to woo his love, Portia, and when he cannot return the borrowed money Shylock brings Antonio to court to collect a literal pound of flesh. The film version that will be shown has yet to be determined.
