Navigating the Philanthropy Zone

Tuesday, April 22, 2014
9:30 AM - 11:30 AM

You’re traveling into a new dimension of organized generosity - a dimension not only of foundations and donors, but of gift funds, giving circles, crowdfunding, and more… A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of donors’ imaginations. The Nonprofit Resource Center is offering a signpost up ahead - your next stop, the Philanthropy Zone.

This session will help you: map all the ways donors are formalizing their philanthropy, including “old time” foundations, understand trends in strategic philanthropy, and learn insider strategies for building positive, lasting relationships with funders.

This session is appropriate for board and staff members who are relatively new to fundraising, as well as to veteran staff who want to enhance their skills. There will be plenty of time for questions, and no questions are “off the table.”

Our guide into the Philanthropy Zone (21st century edition) is Tony Macklin, Executive Director of the Roy A. Hunt Foundation. He brings to the session twenty years of experience serving a wide variety of grantmakers and donor groups, and current experience with and research into newer forms of giving.

Tony Macklin serves as a trustee of Awesome Pittsburgh; board member of the Union Project and Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania; advisory board member for the Allegheny Regional Asset District and National Center for Family Philanthropy; member of the Pittsburgh Planned Giving Council; and speaker and facilitator at conferences, classes, and community meetings. He has served on more grantmaking and scholarship committees than he can remember. You can follow his observations, and occasional rants, on philanthropy at www.tonymacklin.com and @tonymacklin1 on Twitter.

This program is free, however, space is limited and registration is required by calling the Nonprofit Resource Center at (412) 622-6277.
