Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Woods Run
The Woods Run library is among the first of our neighborhood locations to be completely renovated. Improvements being considered include major interior upgrades throughout the building and the addition of windows.
This community-driven planning process includes a series of public meetings to engage Woods Run residents and library users in creating an accessible, state-of-the-art library.
April 11, 2002 - Community meeting with DesignGroup, professional library programmers. The community and library users were asked what they liked about the library and what they would make better about the library.
April 2002 - July 2002 - DesignGroup meets with manager of CLP-Woods Run and staff of CLP- Woods Run to discuss book collections and customer needs. These meetings assist in the development of a library program for CLP-Woods Run. Other CLP staff are involved in the development of an outstanding library program that will meet the needs of the library users.
June 2002 - Representatives from Rothschild Architects and the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh-Woods Run meet with Councilwoman Barbara Burns, members of the Brightwood Civic Association and members of the Brightwood Business Association to discuss the library renovation plans.
July 22, 2002 - Community meeting with DesignGroup to discuss the bubble diagram, a conceptual design of how the book collections and different areas "fit" into the building. Attendees discussed the children's area, the addition of a "teen area" and areas for special collections and meeting space.
July 2002 - Present - Semi-weekly meetings with CLP-Woods Run branch manager and other CLP staff to discuss incorporating community input into the library design and to discuss ongoing changes and ideas.
September 23, 2002 - Branch Manager Kip Currier meet with Friends of the Woods Run Library to engage them in discussion about what they'd like to see in the library and to update them on the progress to date.
October 2, 2002 - Rothschild Architects lead a discussion with the community regarding possible designs including the creation of a meeting/reading room, possible ideas about the children's area and response to the "front porch" idea for the front of the library.
December 11, 2002 - Architects share with the community initial design concepts and receive feedback and input.
August 7, 2003, - Architect Karen Loysen presents schematic designs to the audience of community members and library users.
September 16, 2003 - Manager Ryan Hughes and Darla Cravotta present and discuss library renovation plans with members of the Brightwood Civic Association.
May 20, 2004 - Met with members of the community to discuss issues around the library designs and funding. Will keep the community posted and believe we will begin early 2005.
February 8, 2005. Meeting with the community to discuss final design and tentative schedule.
DECEMBER 7, 2005 Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh last day of service! Re-opening early summer 2006!!!!
