Featured PositionLibrary Services Manager- LBPH
The Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH) Services Manager leads a team of dedicated staff in developing and providing statewide services to fulfill the reading and information needs of patrons with limited visual and physical abilities. These services include distributing audio books produced locally and those provided by the National Library Service (NLS), large print, braille, and other accessible formats through electronic and physical means. The Manager of CLP-LBPH will work with colleagues in similar organizations around the nation and closely with the Free Library of Philadelphia and the Office of Commonwealth Libraries in Pennsylvania to develop and guide these specialized services, and they will focus on identifying and engaging new users for whom the services are designed. This manager also represents the needs of their designated community to CLP, serving as an advocate and resource for inclusive library services system-wide.
The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to equity of access, understand the nature of service to special audiences, and will be flexible, cooperative and accomplished at creating and maintaining partnerships. We seek a sensitive and collaborative leader for the team in place who have proven themselves to be resilient, effective, efficient and patron-focused. LBPH is poised to evolve in the next few years in response to a changing field of service, emerging technologies and an increasing demographic diversity in the audience we serve. The position will require someone who can see the future and plan for it - allocating physical, human and financial resources in new ways to best accomplish the goals we set together with our statewide partners.
In addition to these leadership roles in service and community, CLP-LBPH participates in a consortium of user libraries for specialized software (CUL) that serves as an integrated library system for the NLS program in Pennsylvania, as well as other states. The candidate should be comfortable with technology and capable of learning about this proprietary software and engaging at an appropriate level to provide input into development efforts to improve the application and pursue long-term solutions to ensure the needs of the providers and consumers of the service are met by the software we use.
