From the Board Chair

Long-time readers will undoubtedly notice a change to this space. Dr. Barbara K. Mistick, who served the Library from 2005 - 2011, left her position as President and Director in May to pursue an opportunity in higher education. The Board of Trustees is hard at work to find the best candidate to fill the vacancy and lead Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh well into the future.

During this interim period, we have asked Mary Frances Cooper, Deputy Director, Karlyn Voss, Director of External and Government Relations and Linda Barsevich, Director of Finance and Administration to work together to guide the Library. I have great confidence in our staff and their outstanding ability to ensure that the high quality of services our customers expect will continue uninterrupted.

Residents of Pittsburgh deserve nothing less than a world-class library system. The Board of Trustees understands the Library's importance to the community, but we are also very aware of the challenges facing this grand institution. Among them: funding that is not keeping pace with the rising cost of services.

As you will read on page 6, Pittsburgh residents now have a chance to decide on whether dedicated funding should be provided to the Library. On November 8, your YES vote will set the cornerstone for our ability to ensure high quality library services well into the future.

Pittsburgh, this is YOUR Library!
