School-Age Programs

School-Age Fun

Elementary and middle school aged children are encouraged to explore literature in a fun and interactive program. Programs vary by location and may include: science programs, craft and art programs, game and activity programs and homework help programs. These 30-60 minute programs are intended to connect children with books and encourage children to use the library regularly.

Game-O-Rama

A variety of electronic and board games are available at each Carnegie Library. Gaming programs bring kids together with like interests and build children's self esteem, motor skills and encourage collaborative skills.

Kids Create

Children are encouraged to explore their artistic talent using hands, minds and imaginations to construct a unique creation! By engaging in craft activities, children develop fine motor coordination, listening skills and the ability to follow single and multi-step directions. All of these skills support the PA Academic Standards. In addition, craft programs provide children with the opportunity to express their interests, ideas and tastes.

Family Study Buddies

The Family Study Buddies program series is an opportunity for children and parents/caregivers to learn to work together to encourage students' school success in kindergarten through fifth grade. Programs will focus on homework help, fun educational activities and creating a home environment good for studying and homework. Families that attend will be given tools, support, resources and treats to make homework time more productive and focused. Monthly programs will be held at select libraries throughout the school year. This program is offered free of charge but space is limited so please register now.

Imagination Builders: Building Program

Children and caregivers are invited to use their imagination to build structures using a variety of building toys. Building blocks are more than fun toys, they are valuable educational and creative tools. While exploring their creativity and imagination children develop math, motor, and communication skills. All of these skills support the Pennsylvania Academic Standards. In addition, building programs provide children with the opportunity to express and explore their interests, ideas and tastes.

Movies @ the Library

Come to the library and watch a free children's movie. Movies are typically rated G or PG unless stated otherwise. Children are encouraged to bring their favorite family member or friend to share the experience.
