Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Opens Expanded Facility in Hazelwood Center
An expanded Library and new community center is enhancing educational services in Pittsburgh's Hazelwood neighborhood. Located just a block away from its previous site, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - Hazelwood's new facility adds 3,500 square feet, doubling the space for resources and programming. In addition to the Library, the Hazelwood Center at 5000 Second Avenue offers space for the Early Learning Hub of Hazelwood and the Greater Hazelwood Family Center - two educational partners whose focus is on early childhood.

Calling All Readers: Summer Reading Officially Begins June 8th!
Children, teens and adults can have fun while learning this summer, through the popular Summer Reading Programs at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. The Library's 2014 Summer Reading season begins June 8 with the 14th Annual Summer Reading Extravaganza and continues through August 9.

CLP - Beechview to Undergo Extensive Building Renovation
Residents in Pittsburgh's Beechview neighborhood will soon see a dramatic difference in their neighborhood library. In order to serve the growing information needs of the community, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will begin renovations on its Beechview location.

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Recognizes the Honorable Frank J. Lucchino
Children ranging from newborns to age eight will benefit from a new fund, established by long-time Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh board member, the Honorable Frank J. Lucchino. A celebration recognizing Judge Lucchino's 20 years as a Life Trustee of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and his transformative leadership on behalf of library services in Allegheny County was held on May 2. The event raised $263,160 for the Frank J. Lucchino KIDS (Kids' Initiative for Dynamic Success) Fund at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Welcomes Director of Digital Strategy and Technology Integration
After an extensive national search process, Mary Frances Cooper, President & Director, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, announced the appointment of Toby Greenwalt as the Library's new Director of Digital Strategy and Technology Integration. In this newly formed position, Greenwalt will coordinate system-wide digital and technology initiatives and direct the work of the Information Technology Department. He also will work closely with leaders of the organization to further the Library’s organizational transformation and ensure that Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is recognized as a trusted and relevant resource for the community in an increasingly digital world.

2014 Best Books for Babies List Released
Every parent knows two things when it comes to early education for their babies: that one can never begin too early in life to guide babies on their path to a well-rounded education, and that books can be a phenomenal means of doing so. Created by a panel of local librarians and child development experts, the Best Books for Babies list is a nationally recognized guide for parents, teachers and caregivers to select quality materials to share with babies age birth to 18 months.

Nicholas and Louis Suarez Named 2013 Library Advocates
During its annual public meeting on March 26, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's Board of Trustees recognized brothers Nicholas and Louis Suarez as its 2013 Advocates of the Year. The annual award recognizes outstanding and deserving community members who demonstrate a commitment to further library services.

Creative teens with a passion for writing can express themselves through Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s 2014 Ralph Munn Creative Writing Contest. Open to all high school students (grades 9 through 12) in Allegheny County, the contest is an opportunity for teens to showcase their writing talents, improve skills and have their work published in the 2014 Ralph Munn Creative Writing Anthology, an anthology which will be distributed to all area libraries.

Children young and old are invited to "Pucker up and party" at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's 8th annual Oakland KazooFest. Noisy, silly and full of family fun, KazooFest celebrates National Kazoo Day (January 28) and commemorates Mozart's birthday (January 27, 1756). Musical talent is not required; anyone can become a master of the kazoo! (Although humming skills are necessary). Kazoos will be provided, but participants may BYOK (Bring Your Own Kazoo) if they wish.
